"Purity of Sustenance"

All of us need food to live; a person will die if he does not eat for a period of time. In today’s gospel Jesus presents Himself as “the Bread of Life”. We need to understand the intentions of Jesus Christ: Why is He so persistent that we acknowledge that in Him we have eternal life? The repeated words “truly, truly” warn us to pay attention and give importance to what He is saying.

One must not take for granted the Eucharist, the Table of the Lord. It is not just a symbol or a mere part of the liturgy. Partaking the Body and Blood of Christ is receiving Christ into your life. One must understand that the very life of Christ is in you as you partake of the Eucharist. Yes, it is true that when you partake of the Body and Blood of Christ you receive healing, yes! Because Christ is in you. Yes, it is true that when you partake of the Body and Blood of Christ you receive eternal life, yes! Because Christ is in you. Yes, it is true that when you partake of the Body and Blood of Christ you receive peace and contentment, yes! Because Christ is in you. Yes, it is true that when you partake of the Body and Blood of Christ you receive love, yes! Because Christ is in you.

Jesus totally completed His work; besides taking our iniquities upon Himself, He gave us instructions, reminders, rules, and life conduct to follow. These are not to put us under obligation or burden, but rather for us to enjoy fully our lives here on earth. We must change our perception that life is difficult, because life is beautiful! Being poor is not an excuse to have a less beautiful life than those who have. Remember, we all breathe the same air. We all have the same general body and stature. We have the same day to work and play, and the same night in which to rest and sleep. We have the same cells in our bodies. One may have sickness and another may have good health but it’s all the same, your structure is never different from another. It is only a matter of how you feel and think. We have different roles in life; one must give and another must receive. One must rule and another must be ruled over. One must give orders and another must follow them, and so on.

In all of this Jesus is our life. He is the author and finisher of our life, so let us set our hearts and minds on the things that Christ intended us to do. Psalm 111:10 says, “… A good understanding have all those who do His commandments.” Live a life worthy of pleasing God!
