2 Samuel 7: 3, 5, 17: “Nathan said to the king, ‘Go, do all that is in your mind, for the Lord is with you.’ … ‘Go and say to My servant David, ‘Are you the one who should build Me a house to dwell in?’ … In accordance with all these words and all this vision, so Nathan spoke to David.’”
Imagine for a moment that you are Nathan. You just told the king what you claimed was a message from God. It was logical, and it was just what David wanted to hear. (Cue SFX: ALARM BELLS) Now you know it wasn’t from God; His real Word for David is almost the opposite of what you said; it’s what he doesn’t want to hear; and now the Lord wants you to go back and proclaim the real Word. And oh yes, did I mention that David has a sword, and knows how to use it? Yet Nathan went back to the King and confessed to him his fault. That is, among other things, some serious courage.
