Monday, July 17: “Unreasonable Reasoning”

Mark 1: 44, 45: “[Jesus] said to him, ‘See that you say nothing to anyone; but go, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.’ But he went out and began to proclaim it freely and to spread the news around, to such an extent that Jesus could no longer publicly enter a city, but stayed out in unpopulated areas, and they were coming to Him from everywhere.”

It seemed like the logical, rational, reasonable thing to do: Freely proclaim and spread the news of how this healer/prophet had delivered you from the death sentence that was leprosy. But the mind of reason isn’t always reasonable, especially when advocates direct disobedience to a command of Christ. Because the ex-leper didn’t obey Jesus, the Messiah Himself had to curtail His urban ministry, which is what He came for (v. 38) Neglect of Jesus’ instruction wasn’t so logical after all, was it?
