Saturday, September 2: “The Presence of Love”

“The Presence of Love”

Psalm 21: 5, 6: “[The king’s] glory is great through Your salvation, splendor and majesty you place upon him. For You make him most blessed forever; You make him joyful with gladness in Your presence.”

Did David live a charmed life? No, he lived a blessed life. He was chosen by God from among the sheepfold, to shepherd His people Israel (Psalm 78: 70, 71). In pastoral solitude he learned the presence of the Lord, and in great turmoil he learned to trust His salvation. The way of kings was to exalt themselves; David’s way was to love the Lord. In divine encounter David experienced the greatness of God’s love, and it works no differently for us three thousand years later.
