Wednesday, August 17: “This Is Only a Test: Part III”

John 6: 5b, 6: “Jesus said to Phillip, ‘Where are we to buy bread, so that these may eat?’ He was saying this to test him, for He Himself knew what He was intending to do.”

This seemed an easy question for Philip, for he was from the nearby town of Bethsaida. Surely he knew of some local bakery! But it was not a case of “hometown boy makes good.” Philip answered a geography question (where) with an economics answer (how much). Andrew, another local, did a lot better (v. 7). Never mind, by the time dinner was over, everyone knew the right answer to Jesus’ question!
