Wednesday, August 2: “Consistent Questions”

Acts 16: 18b, 19: “Paul ws greatly annoyed, and turned and said to the spirit, ‘I command you in the Name of Jesus Christ to come out of her!’ And it came out at that very moment. But when their masters saw that their hope of profit was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the market place before the authorities.”

We must daily ask for God’s direction, because today’s answer might be different from yesterday’s answer. Paul had cast out many spirits in his tie, but on this occasion, instead of asking the Lord what to do that day, he moved out of annoyance rather than compassion. Successful exorcism! But beating and imprisonment were the result. And while the Lord made a good thing come out of Paul’s and Silas’ jail time (vv. 29-34), they still had to leave town (v. 40).
