“Turncoat”

Psalm 55: 12-14: “It is not an enemy who reproaches me, then I could bear it; … But it is you, a man my equal, my companion and my familiar friend, we who had sweet fellowship together.” The Gospels show to us that today, Wednesday in Passion Week, is the day that satan entered Judas, and he began to seek a way to betray Jesus. Thus this psalm is a part of our observance. It even predicts Judas’ end: “Men of bloodshed and deceit will not live out half their days” (v. 23), but also reminds us in times of our own betrayal (we all have them) to “Cast your burden upon the Lord, and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken.” (v. 22)
