“No Surprise”

Genesis 22: 8: “And Abraham said, “God will provide for Himself the lamb for the burnt offering.” Who could have guessed, two thousand years before the fact, that this perhaps troubling story of a father sacrificing His son was, in fact, a prophetic utterance concerning God the Father and His Son Christ? But God knew. As St. Peter says in the Epistle reading for today, “You were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold … but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ. For He was foreknown before the foundation of the world.” (1 Peter 1: 18-20) You, too, were foreknown, and your whole life in God was mapped out long before you even knew Him. Rest assured, little lamb of God’s flock, He has a plan!
