“Who’s in the Middle of This?”

Psalm 71: 16: “I will come with the mighty deeds of the Lord God; I will make mention of Your righteousness, Yours alone.” How often do we come to God in praise and make mention of ourselves as much as we do of Him? If it is really praise, God Himself will be at the center of it. It will be His deeds and His righteousness that is exalted. Again, take the Pronoun Test: How much of our praise is in the first person (I) and how much is in the second person (You)? Yes, we must be grateful for what God has done for us personally, but we must also exalt God beyond that, to who He is in the universal and eternal scheme of things. That’s what helped this psalmist remain faithful even into his old age!
