“Does God Swear?”
Hebrews 6: 12, 13: “God, desiring even more to show the heirs of the promise the unchangeableness of His purpose, interposed with an oath.” Why does God get to swear (make an oath) when He commands us not to? (Matthew 5: 34) We have no right to swear because we have no power to ensure the matter we are swearing about will happen. As Jesus says, you can’t make one hair white or black. (This was in the days before Clairol) God, on the other hand, can make every hair white, black, or each hair a different color if He wants to. He can back it up, so He gets to swear.
