1 Samuel 22: 22: “Then David said to Abiathar, ‘I knew on that day, when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul. I have brought about the death of every person in your father’s household.’” Well, yeah. Not only because He didn’t deal with Doeg, but because he went to Nob under false pretenses, lied to the priest about why he was there, and trusted in a sword which had not done a very good job of protecting its owner (Goliath). The whole affair was a big mess, culminating in the death of eighty-five priests. Yet David was so aware of the mercy of God, and so unaffected by guilt, that he offered to be the protector of the sole survivor of the men he got killed. The guy understood something that we today don’t really see.
