Acts 16: 13: “And on the Sabbath day we went outside the gate to a riverside, where we were supposing that there would be a place of prayer.” Why wasn’t Lydia, a “worshipper of God”, in Church on the Sabbath? Because Philippi was a Roman military colony, whose Jewish population was not yet big enough to rate a synagogue. That’s why Paul knew they would be out by the river, praying. As soon as things got organized there was a church in Philippi - in Lydia’s house.
