“What is Praise?”

Psalm 100: 4: “Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him, bless His Name.” If you want to understand praise, this psalm is a good place to start. Joy, service, singing, recognition of Who God is and who we are; these are all elements of praise. And another key element is praise is thanksgiving – you can’t have praise without it. And as for ‘blessing the Lord’ – in Hebrew, blessing and thanksgiving are the same root word. Something (or someone) is blessed by giving thanks for it, (such as a meal) and blessing is an expression of thankfulness.
