Acts 24: 6-7: “And he even tried to desecrate the temple; and then we arrested him. And we wanted to judge him according to our own law. But Lysias the commander came along, and with much violence took him out of our hands.” Talk about coloring the facts! Turtullus’ version of Acts 21: 31-34 hardly lines up with the report of St. Luke. According to him, the Jews were beating Paul without a trial, trying to kill him, when Lysias basically saved his life by bringing him into Roman custody. Typical courtroom antics: trying to turn the hero into the villain, and the victim into the culprit! But we in this country know a little about that …
