“Overconfident”

Mark 14: 68; 70-72: “But he denied it … But again he was denying it … But he began to curse and swear, ‘I do not know this man you are talking about.’ And immediately a cock crowed a second time. And Peter remembered how Jesus had made the remark to him, ‘Before a cock crows twice, you will deny Me three times.’” How confident Peter had been a few hours earlier! (Mark 14: 31) The Lord has a way of humbling those who, in overconfidence, boast and brag. Ask Herod (Acts 12: 21-23), for one. But we must understand that this is for our good, because no fleshly pride can stand in His presence (Exodus 4: 4-6).
