“Who Was That Young Man?”

Mark 16: 5: “And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting at the right, wearing a white robe; and they were amazed.” Who was he? For one thing, he wasn’t a regular earth-walking man like you and I. In scripture there are numerous places where visible manifestations of both God (Genesis 18: 1-2) and angels (Revelation 22: 8-9) are called ‘men’. And the word ‘angel’ is used to cover all kinds of manifestations. Sometimes there are just no earthly words to describe heavenly things. As the musical prophet said, “It’s hard to describe the ocean if you’ve never seen it.” (By the way, the musical prophet was Jimmy Buffet. He’s not quoted in settings like this very much, but he seemed to fit.)
