“The Gospel According to Freddy Kreuger?”

Matthew 5: 29, 30: If your right hand makes you stumble, tear it out, and throw it from you; for it is better for you that one of the parts of your body perish, than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand makes you stumble, cut it off, and throw it from you; for it is better for you that one of the parts of your body perish, than for your whole body to go into hell.” Wow, Jesus sure seems bloodthirsty in these verses, doesn’t He? But He is using symbolism; this is made plain by His use of the term ‘right eye ... right hand.’ Why not the left? The right side is a metaphor for strength. Jesus is saying that if evil dominates the things you see or do, remove that practice from your life, or your eternity will turn out to be most unpleasant!
