“All In Vain?”

2 Kings 23: 24: “Moreover, Josiah removed the mediums and the spiritists and the teraphim and the idols and all the abominations that were seen in the land of Judah and Jerusalem, that he might confirm the words of the law.” The last couple of days we’ve been reading about the spectacular revival brought about by the discovery of God’s Word and Josiah’s heart toward God. Now the bad news: The next generation blew the whole thing. Before long, Nebuchadnezzar had destroyed Jerusalem and its temple. Was the revival futile? Was it wrong? No on both counts! But we need to learn that God moves in waves, and their purpose is not to entertain us as we move from one wave to another. Sometimes we are called to stop and minister to those in the trough, and that’s hard to do when you’re busy surfing and yelling “Cowabunga.” Dude!
