“The Family of God: Humbling Ourselves as Servants”

The words of Jesus should make us think: “It is not this way among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave: just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”

No one else should we look toward to learn and follow their way, but rather unto Jesus only. Jesus, even though being God and King, humbled himself, bent down on His knees and washed the feet of His disciples. He was not just a servant, but a humble servant. He did all things without any objection or complaint. Not just a servant, but a humble servant.

He did all things in a manner of excellence and competence. Not just a servant, but an effective, humble servant. He first lifted his hand to raise his sleeves and tuck his shirt in order to do the works that needed to be done. Not just a servant, but an exemplary, effective, humble servant.

He first saw to it that all had been served before he attended to his needs. Not just a servant, but a sacrificial, exemplary, effective, humble servant.

He protects and defends His Master and His fellow servants. Not just a servant, but a defending, sacrificial, exemplary, effective, humble servant.

He never abused his privileges, never used His authority and honor to gain advantage. Not just a servant but a benevolent, defending, sacrificial, exemplary, effective, humble servant.

He loved to serve and love His neighbor just as He loved Himself. Not just a servant, but a loving, benevolent, defending, sacrificial, exemplary, effective, humble servant.

“Let a man regard us in this matter, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God, In this case, moreover, it is required of stewards that one be found trustworthy.” 1 Corinthians 4:1-2 clearly reminds us that a servant must also be trusted. All Christians are servants and leaders but it is required that they also be trustworthy. Handling the resources and mysteries of God is difficult and very tempting, it might cause you to abuse your privilege and do a dishonest thing.

Not just a servant, but a trustworthy, loving, benevolent, defending, sacrificial, exemplary, effective, humble servant.
