“The Big Payback”

Obadiah 15, 21: “As you have done, it will be done to you. Your dealings will return on your own head … The deliverers will ascend Mount Zion to judge the mountain of Esau, and the Kingdom will be the Lord’s.” Obadiah was the earliest of the prophets with their own books, ministering way back in the time of Elisha. The entirety of his brief writing is concerned with how the Edomites, the descendants of Esau, will pay the price for rejecting and opposing their brethren Israel. His last verse seems a prophetic indictment against the most famous of all Edomites, the king who tried to kill the Hebrew newborn King of kings – the man we know as Herod the Great. As Obadiah announces about 850 years before it happens, Herod will be judged, and the Kingdom will be the Lord’s.
