“The Kingmaker”

John 6: 15: “Jesus therefore perceiving that they were intending to come and take Him by force, to make Him king, withdrew again to the mountain by Himself alone.” Sometimes we hear someone say that we should make Jesus the king of our lives, that we should crown Him as our Lord. But we can’t do that. We don’t have the authority to do that. On Good Friday the people gave Jesus a scepter, then they took it away and beat Him with it (Matthew 27: 29-30). A king who is enthroned by the people can also be dethroned by the people. That is why Jesus was so very careful to avoid such a scenario. To be the king mankind needed He had to be crowned by God alone, and that could only happen when He humbled Himself, so He could then be exalted by His Father (Philippians 2: 8-11).
