“Saline Solution?”
Psalm 80: 5: “You have fed them with the bread of tears, and You have made them to drink tears in large measure.” This doesn’t sound like the most nourishing diet available, does it? It lacks every nutrient except salt. But it is not that uncommon. The sons of Korah once complained, “My tears have been my food day and night (Psalm 42: 3), while another afflicted saint claimed to have mingled his drink with weeping (Psalm 102: 9). But we have to know that these things are restorative in the hands of the Lord; the bread of privation and the water of oppression (Isaiah 30: 20) come before blessing as a cool breeze comes before rain. Learn to find God in them! “Weeping may last for the night, but a shout of joy comes in the morning.” (Psalm 30: 5)
