1 Corinthians 9: 24: “Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win.” Does this mean that out of all the people practicing the Christian faith, only one succeeds? No, the competition St. Paul is describing here is not against other believers. It is against ourselves, our own desires. Running in a winning way means the practice of self-control and self-discipline. All who are successful in this receive an imperishable wreath. That’s why we have Lent - it’s training for the race.
