“Root Message”

Luke 6: 31: “Just as you want people to treat you, treat them in the same way.” Several hundred years before the time of Christ the philosopher Confucius was teaching in China, “Whatever you do not wish to be done to you, do it not to others.” Wow, was Jesus guilty of plagiarism, merely casting Confuscius’ analect into a more positive angle? Worse, does this mean the Golden Rule is pagan? No on both counts. God is the source of all truth, and if He loved the Chinese people so much that He didn’t want to wait hundreds of years longer for them to receive this core of social order, well, so be it. Truth is truth, no matter from whose mouth it proceeds.
