Exacting Through His Word
It's rainy season once again, and we do rely on the weather forecast via social media, TV and radio broadcasting stations. Weather awareness in this present age must be taken seriously through education and proper information because of the La Niña effect brought about by climate change. Worries may creep into our hearts over the needed preparedness and preventive measures, which entail costs.
But wait! We've long been interpreting these signs of the weather, but how about the interpretation of our spiritual realm? In last Sunday's Gospel reading, Luke 12:32a, Jesus said, "Do not be afraid." Don’t forget last Sunday's reading and the gradual verse from Psalm 119:14 and 16 which says, "I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies, as much as in all riches. I shall delight in Your statutes, I shall not forget Your Word.” Jesus did not teach us to fear but to build our faith (Luke 17:6-10). Jesus also said that He would give us His peace (John 14:27), the kind of peace that will unite us.
In a secular job with workers of different attitudes and races, it is more beneficial to look on their good aspects rather than their differences, in order to maintain unity. Each individual has his or her own talent to accomplish their job as each one does his part.
It is the same way in the church. We have a task to accomplish through the ministerial gifts that God has given us. St. Paul said in Ephesians 4:3, “… being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” In Colossians 3:14, “Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity.” Jesus even prayed to the Father in John 17:11, that through His Name, we maybe one. In fact, it is in our daily prayer to pray for the unity of the church. The father in Jesus' parable of "The Prodigal Son" did not reject nor divide his two sons, though they had different attitudes and motives. Even though his youngest son left, the father eagerly waited and greatly rejoiced over his homecoming.
In Genesis chapter 3, when man sinned against God, God did not separate man and woman. Instead, He covered them, not because of their sins but because of their obedience in facing their punishment and its consequences together. God had assigned man and woman to work together as a team, and they were able to accomplish the task.
All this was passed on to us, the church. Jesus said in Luke 10:2, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest." We are all sent by Him Whose desire for us is not to divide nor analyze things that surrounds us, but to please the One who sent us through serving. We are all His.
