“Great God”

Psalm 48: 1: “Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, in the city of our God, His holy mountain.” Carlos did a good job on his exams; Sheila did a great job. Who did better? In the last few decades it has become popular to say “God is good!” True enough, but He’s more than good, He’s great. Our Islamic brothers are quick to point this out. They preach a great God; we preach a good God. Which would you choose? The issue is, God is great as well as good, but if we focus only on His goodness, at the expense of His greatness, we present Him as less than He is. The Church right now needs balance in this area.
