“Advent Lesson #6”

Amos 5: 18: “Alas, you who are longing for the day of the Lord, for what purpose will the day of the Lord be to you? It will be darkness and not light.” One view of the Second Coming is as a heavenly rescue operation, when Jesus punishes our enemies and lets us get on with life the way we always wanted to in the first place, without interference. Surprise! Jesus’ return will bring no new elements to His Kingdom; it will simply, once and for all, remove the residue of the old kingdom of man. The more you are hanging on to that, the more the Second Coming of Jesus will be a grave disappointment to you. And the more you seek first His Kingdom and its righteousness right now, the happier that day will be!
