“Sweetest Wood, Sweetest Tree”

Exodus 15: 25: “Then He cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a tree; and he threw it into the waters,” and the waters became sweet. Bitterness of spirit leads to bitterness of words, bitterness of life, and eventually sickness of life. God’s cure for bitterness is the tree, i.e., the cross. Following Christ’s cross (and bearing our own) brings the sweetness of health; that’s why God can say, “I am the Lord, your healer (v. 26).
