Day 69: Spiritual Food in Quarantine

He taught with real authority - quite unlike their teachers of the law.

Jesus’ ways are different, and higher, than the world’s ways. To defeat powerful rulers, He came as an infant. To conquer beasts, He became a lamb. To topple Caesar, He armed His people with palm branches. He’s a paradoxical puzzle. It makes me wonder what kind of teacher He was. Fiery? Loud? Flamboyant? Mt 7:29 says He taught with authority and not as the scribes. The big difference is explained in one translation - “When Jesus concluded His address, the crowd burst into applause. They had never heard a teaching like this. It was apparent that He was living everything He was saying - quite a contrast to their religion teachers! This was the best teaching they had ever heard.” He was not a celebrity preacher who was detached from the people. His ministry was hands-on and compassionate, not just all words. He touched and healed and ate with people whom the religious leaders saw as unclean. That turned the world upside down. Be like Jesus, not like the scribes.
