Day 33: Spiritual Food in Quarantine
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations …”
I learned that when you see a “therefore,” you have to read before the “therefore” so you’ll know what the “therefore” is there for.
Jesus said all authority has been given to Him in heaven and on earth. Then He tells His followers to go into all the world and make disciples of all nations. It is His victory over death that is our authorization to fulfill the great commission. More than that, it is the reason we preach the good news that God has commanded the blessing - life forever. And for that matter, refute the fake news that He is angry and brings calamity. This Sunday’s gospel shows us that when the resurrected Jesus appeared to His apostles, He did not demand payback. Instead, He spoke peace and forgiveness. He has the authority, and more so the pleasure, to do that. That’s good news.
