August 6, 2024 Daily Dose of Discernment

“Now My soul has become troubled; and what shall I say, ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour. (Rather, I will say,) 'Father, glorify Your name!’” (John 12:27-28)

It's interesting that this is the gospel for today, the Feast of the Transfiguration. Usually the reading is the story of Jesus being seen by the disciples in radiant glory on the mountain. But come to think of it, the glory of God is revealed in His mercy more than in any supernatural spectacle. That Jesus was willing to go to the cross in order to demonstrate this makes it all the more glorious.

While the infinite heavens declare the glory of its Creator, the greater wonder that brings us to our knees is His amazing grace that saves wretches and transforms them into new creatures and partakers of His divine nature.
