Luke 19: 7: “When they saw it, they all began to grumble, saying, ‘He has gone to be the guest of a man who is a sinner.” Then there’s the other side of human nature: the deviation of the Law of Christ that gets resentful when someone we hate, such as this tax-collector, is blessed. I’d like to think these naysayers were the Pharisees and Sadducees, but Luke doesn’t actually say—it’s possible some followers of Jesus were (are) guilty of this attitude, even though He has just taught them there is joy in heaven over one sinner who repents (Luke 15: 7, 10, 32). Sadly, we don’t always follow the Law of Christ.
