“Marriage is a major preoccupation here, but not there. Those who are included in the resurrection of the dead will no longer be concerned with marriage nor, of course, with death. They will have better things to think about, if you can believe it. All ecstasies and intimacies then will be with God.” (Luke 20:34-35)
To many, especially young people, life without romance is unimaginable. If what Jesus says above is true, they would not look forward to the life of the world to come because it will be dull.
Children have different interests from adults. They are more concerned about toys and candies. When they get older, their likes change. They no longer enjoy those things but would rather do what grown-ups do. This side of the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come, we are like children, thinking romantic love is like an indispensable toy. We don't yet realize there's a lot more to life than Barbie's and GI Joe's and M&M's. When we mature in God, we will find that seeking His kingdom and righteousness is way more fulfilling than childish things. Our delight will be in the Law of the Lord which is the pursuit of the good of others rather than our own pleasures. May we grow and discover true joy.
