“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. And you shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Mark 12:30-31)
In our church's liturgy, the Summary of the Law, which is quoted above, is said right at the beginning. The commandments of God boil down to what it proclaims: love Him with all your being and your neighbor as yourself.
The apostle John says we cannot love God Whom we don't see if we don't love our brother whom we see. As someone so rightly says, we really only love God as much as the person we love the least. And as Jesus so authoritatively points out, what we do to the least of His brothers, we do to Him (who is God). May the love we profess that we have for God be substantiated by our love for our neighbor.
