“You are the salt of the earth … you are the light of the world.” (Matthew 5:13-14)
I'm not being arrogant, but I will be so bold as to say followers of Jesus are co-redemptrix. I know it's a title attributed to Mary and it's true that she is, in a distinguished way. But while Jesus is THE Savior, and salvation is His work, He invites and empowers us to participate in it. That's why He calls us the salt of the earth because salt is a preservative and salvation means preservation. That's also why He calls us the light of the world after proclaiming that He is THE Light of the World, who enlightens every man and saves them from darkness.
This should not make us haughty. On the contrary, it should humble. But on the other hand is should also make us grateful for the tremendous privilege we have been graciously given. So whatever role you have in whichever area of Christ's Church you were assigned, heartily fulfill it as a thankful response and as your reasonable service of worship.
