February 9, 2025 Daily Dose of Discernment

“Master, we worked hard all night and caught nothing, but I will do as You say and let down the nets." (Luke5:5)

After trying to catch fish all night and getting nothing, Peter was told by Jesus to go out into the deep and cast his net there. Likely in a bad mood, Peter could have thought, "Who does this part-time carpenter, part-time preacher think He is, teaching a professional fisherman how to do his job?" Instead, he humbly set aside his pride and did His bidding. It resulted in a catch so big it almost sank their boat and required another to haul in the rest of the fish.

Sometimes we may feel God's command is unreasonable, even impossible. But like Peter, we need to learn to lean not on our own understanding and trust in the Lord whose ways are higher and are given to us to follow for our good.
