Friday, August 25: “Kind Smite”

Psalm 141: 5: “Let righteousness smite me in kindness and reprove me; it is oil upon the head; do not let my head refuse it.”

“Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but deceitful are the kisses of an enemy.” (Proverbs 27: 6) “It is better to listen to the rebuke of a wise man than for one to listen to the song of fools.” (Ecclesiastes 7: 5) “Reprove a wise man, and he will love you.” (Proverbs 9: 8) “Reprove one who has understanding and he will gain knowledge.” (Proverbs 19: 25) Is it any wonder that the man who penned such wisdom was the son of he who wrote Psalm 141: 5? David obviously knew how to heed his own advice; as did Solomon–in his early days. In later years, sadly, he seems to have gotten off track rather badly.
