July 21, 2024 Daily Dose of Discernment

When Jesus went ashore, He saw a large crowd, and He felt compassion for them because they were like sheep without a shepherd. (Mark 6:34)

What makes Jesus the Good Shepherd is that of all God has given Him, He loses nothing but loves and restores everyone to His own hurt. Many, if not all, the people He saw following Him in the gospel passage today came for selfish reasons. It didn't matter to Him; He had mercy on all of them and met their need for healing, teaching and feeding.

Our God's compassion as seen in Jesus is without borders. He is no respecter of persons and makes the sun to shine and the rain to fall on the righteous and unrighteous alike. Our calling is to love people the same way, including the former friend we parted ways with, the officemate who hates us, the in-law who gives us a hard time, or the person in our mind we dislike the most.
