The Israelites sampled their provisions but did not inquire of the Lord. (Joshua 9:14)
The Israelites were deceived by some Hivites into making a covenant with them because they made a rookie mistake: they used their own analytical ability but did not bother to ask God for counsel in dealing with them.
One of our bedrock principles in the Charismatic Episcopal Church is called consensus government. While we use our judgment in evaluating things and making decisions, we always strive to seek the mind of the Lord in unity. After all, we are merely stewards of what He owns and besides, He knows best. As leaders, it is always wise to prayerfully hear what the Spirit is saying to the church and implementing only that.
