"I delight to do Your will, O my God; Your Law is within my heart.” (Psalm 40:8)
David, the writer of Psalm 40, speaking something that is attributed to the Messiah in prophecy, pens the words of the verse above. The Christ-like attitude of servanthood is voluntary and cheerful. It says "I get to" rather than "I have to." That service is a privilege rather than an obligation.
Serving indicates a certain amount of sacrifice or inconvenience. Whether it is done willingly or mandatorily makes a difference. The former is how true servants of the Lord do it. For us, it is relational, not transactional; out of love, not out of obligation. Let us maintain that witness.
