“Whom do you want me to release for you? Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?” (Matthew 27:17)
The name "Barabbas" means son of the father. He represents all of mankind in that he is imprisoned in his sinfulness. Jesus died for the sins of all men, the just for the unjust, so that He might free us. At face value, this is not fair. But the Lord's justice means setting things right even if He suffers injustice. That's how much He values us.
Saint Paul asks, "Why not rather be wronged?" when there are disputes. May we be willing to be inconvenienced for the sake of peace and ascribe as much worth to our brother as our Savior did to us. That would make us like Him and free us from the prison of our ego.
