June 15, 2024 Daily Dose of Discernment

And He was transfigured before them; and His face shone like the sun, and His garments became as white as light. (Matthew 17:2)

I've pointed out before that the way I see what happened at The Transfiguration is not that Jesus was granted a moment of glory and the disciples saw it while it lasted, but that He has always had glory (the same eternal glory He had with the Father before the world was made) and the disciples were momentarily granted eyes to see it.

I believe that to the extent that we look with spiritual eyes, we will see the glory of God in the face Christ. Sometimes we're distracted by people, things, circumstances and situations and we don't see. But sin doesn't just distract us, it blinds us from seeing that glory. And that's why we should not sin - not just because it offends God - but because it robs us of this blessed vision and of the fullness of life He intends for us.
