John 2: 5: “His mother said to the servants, ‘Whatever He says to you, do it.’” Mary was surprised! Although Jesus had left home shortly before His baptism, He was just spending time teaching His disciples, and had not yet performed any miracles. This certainly did not fit in with any of the words she had received concerning Him at the time of His conception and birth! So, like any good mother, when she was reunited with Him as guests at a local wedding, she gave her Son a little push. Was she out of line? I don’t know, but Jesus did finally do something Messiah-like, and I imagine that neither the bridegroom nor Mary had any problem with that.
