Monday, September 9: “Girl Power, First Century Style

Acts 13: 50: “But the Jews incited the devout women of prominence and the leading men of the city, and instigated a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and drove them out of their district.”

Some of the Jewish contingent living in Pisidian Antioch, in their zeal to stop the spread of Christianity in their region, were ready to use any means to stop Paul and Barnabas. To their credit, they recognized the potential of devout, prominent women, and incited them against the apostles. We can’t honor these men for instigating this persecution, but at least they knew who was the most qualified and able to help them in their cause!
