“There was a rich man who wore expensive clothes and lived in luxury every day. At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus who longed to eat what fell from the rich man’s table.” (Luke 16:19-21)
In the parable, the rich man indulged in his affluence while a sick and starving man sat at his gate, a constant calling to minister that he ignored.
There is nothing wrong with being having possessions. God wants us to prosper in spirit, soul and body. But this is so we can be instruments through whom His blessings can reach others, especially those in need. Let us not withhold good from those to whom it is due because we have been empowered to do so. Fullness of life consists in fulfilling this, not in the abundance of material wealth.
