October 11, 2021: Daily Dose of Discernment

Love … is not provoked. (1 Corinthians 13:5)

People can offend us and we can resent them and justify it. But because love is not provoked, that would only show we don’t have love. If we do, no one can make us do anything we decide not to do.

A survivor of the Auschwitz concentration camp had this kind of love. That’s why he forgave his torturers and said, “I still believe in man in spite of man.” A 19th century hymn writer who lost his family in a shipwreck, understood this kind of love. That’s why he wrote, “It is well with my soul.” Our crucified Lord was full of this kind of love. That’s why He prayed, “Father forgive them.”

Thank God He does not react in anger to our stubbornness, nor deal with us according to our sins, nor reward us according to our iniquities, but is patient, kind and not provoked. Thank God He is love.
