The man He had healed begged to go with him. But Jesus sent him away, saying, “Go back home and tell people what God did for you.” (Luke 8:38-39)
Apparently, the desire of the man from whom the demons had gone out, which is to join Jesus in His mission, makes sense. Service is his response to his deliverance. But the Lord has something else in mind. He wants him to serve right in his hometown where, by the way, Jesus is not welcome.
We are to do Jesus' will and we are to do it His way, not ours. Let us be sensitive to His voice and not let our own plans and preferences, likes and dislikes, get in the way of our obedience. He may be sending us to a town in Sudan, not Paris. He may want us to feed the hungry, not sing. Sometimes His calling is a bit of a challenge, but all the time it is a joy.
