"Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:42)

Hosting Jesus and His retinue was not an easy task. Mary did that and she was stressed. Seeing Mary sitting at He feet made it worse for her. When she complained, He told her she was too uptight and pointed out that Mary has chosen the better part.

Is Jesus saying the contemplative life is better than the active life when it comes to religion? Not at all. What He's saying is that whatever we do, the point is finding peace in doing it. We can find rest in a busy lifestyle because we are fulfilled and we can get stressed just praying because we are anxious. Or vice-versa. It would definitely help if we focus on our own calling and not stick our nose in another's. Hear Jesus saying, "What is that to you? You follow Me!"
