October 7, 2021: Daily Dose of Discernment

“Surely I will not enter my house, or lie on my bed, or give sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids, until I find a place for the Lord, a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.” (Psalm 132:3-5)

David’s strong words signify that he would not be comfortable in his house or in his bed until he had built a temple for the Lord. He would give himself wholeheartedly to this endeavor. Commenting on this and echoing the prophet Haggai (1:4), Charles Spurgeon said : “I wish this same zeal would take firm hold of all Christians. How many there are who dwell in their ceiled houses while the house of God lies waste! May the Lord give us to feel something of this self-denial and devotion to God that moved the heart of David!”

As we at Cathedral of the King carry on our project of building a church as a monument to God’s faithfulness, indeed may passion for the Lord’s house consume us and touch the hearts of others. I am thankful that some already have this fervor and I pray that many more would have the same, that we may behold how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity, lifting up holy hands without wrath and dissension, to the glory of our great God.
