Saturday, February 8: “Want Destroyed”
Psalm 23: 1:“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.”
Do not be confused by the old English use of the word ‘want’ here. In this case it means lack, not desire. So David is saying, as a sheep in God’s flock, he has no lack, even when hiding from Saul in the wilderness or fleeing from Absalom as he crossed the Jordan. Even the valley of the shadow of death held no fear for him (v. 4). As for David’s desire, he also makes this clear: To dwell in God’s house forever(v. 6b; Psalm 27: 4).
